Cambodia removed a travel restriction on Indians on Friday, citing a significant drop in new COVID-19 cases in the country, according to the kingdom's Health Minister, Mam Bunheng.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has authorized the easing of the restriction, according to Bunheng, who added that the ban would be lifted from Saturday.

To combat the spread of the Delta form of COVID-19, the Southeast Asian country barred all Indian nationals and international travellers passing via India from entering Cambodia in late April.

Since February 20, Cambodia has been dealing with the third wave of COVID-19 community transmission.

According to the health ministry, the kingdom recorded 588 new infections on Friday, bringing the national case total to 80,813, with 1,526 deaths and 74,045 recoveries.
