A multi-purpose port in the coastal province of Kep

The construction of a multi-purpose port in the coastal province of Kep is scheduled to begin in mid-September. The project, which will be the province’s first port, will take 24 months to complete.

According to Kep provincial town, the construction of the “Ses Sar” or “White Horse” port would cost $1.9 million.

According to a press announcement delivered on Wednesday, the government has entrusted the port to the private sector under a “Build, Operate, and Transfer” arrangement.

After completed, the port’s owner will generate money by collecting docking fees for 15 years.

The firm must additionally pay a $2,750 tax to the provincial government each year.

According to the statement, the investors must unconditionally hand over the port and its structures to the government as public property at the completion of the contract.

Som Piseth, governor of Kep, stated that the port is part of the province’s new tourism development strategy.

"The goal of Ses Sar is to contribute to economic growth, create jobs, improve people's living conditions, and eliminate poverty"

"Ferries and ships carrying up to 1,000 tonnes will be allowed to berth at the port."
