The National Road 3 project, which connects the Chom Chao roundabout in Phnom Penh’s capital to Kampot province, is currently 98 percent complete.

Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, stated during an inspection visit to the construction site on Tuesday that the road development, which was initially scheduled for 2022, will be completed in September of this year.

“Once completed, the road will be put into informal usage for a year to ensure its quality.”

He said that the government would sign a contract to acquire the completed road from the construction business after the quality is certified to be as excellent as stated in the contract.

The 134-kilometer-long project was divided into two pieces. The first is 69
kilometers long and 24.5 meters wide, connecting Chom Chao roundabout to Bekkus region in Takeo province, while the second is 65 kilometers long and 12 meters wide, connecting Bekkus and Kampot province.

The road building project, which began in May 2018 under Prime Minister Hun Sen’s administration, would cost $220 million.

Surveillance cameras are scheduled to be put along the route to detect speeding drivers, although the limit speed is 80 kilometers per hour, according to Chanthol.

The government also intended to install concealed subterranean scales to check the overburden shipment.
