The registration of Koh Ker Temple as a UNESCO World Heritage Site is expected in July 2022 at the UNESCO world summit organized in Russia.
The Ministry of Culture is awaiting a visit from UNESCO at Koh Ker Temple in order to finish the registration process to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In July, Cambodia will complete the registration of the ancient Temple as a World Heritage site.
Kong Puthika, director-general of the National Authority for Preah Vihear, who spearheaded the research on Koh Ker Temple, told the Khmer Times on Thursday that Cambodia has already sent finished papers to UNESCO since January 1 of this year.
UNESCO will visit Cambodia to inspect the temple, with a visit scheduled at the end of 2021. This is the procedure that UNESCO will follow, and they will need to examine the temple and its features in order to register the temple as a world heritage site.

And it will be at that point that they will determine whether or not to register Kok Ker Temple as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
"The Koh Ker Temple was recommended as a World Heritage Site because it has global importance in showcasing Cambodian culture." It would assist the temple's conservation aims and attract tourists.”
Minister of Culture Phoeurng Sackona, who has been directing the production of the paperwork, stated that the World Heritage Committee requires three primary documents: registration application documents, site management planning documents, and documentation for tourist development following registration.
Koh Ker Temple is located in Srayong Cheung village, Srayong commune, Kulen district, Preah Vihear province, about 72 kilometers from Siem Reap by Road 211 and 49 kilometers from Preah Vihear provincial center. Angkor Wat was included to the World Heritage List in 1992, Preah Vihear in 2008, and Sambor Prei Kuk in 2017.
Cambodia examined the Koh Ker Temple region in Preah Vihear province and Banteay Chhmar temple in Banteay Meanchey province in 2018 to recommend that these two temples be placed on the World Heritage list.
